Pre-owned but this rasp has been unused.
From French maker Auriou Toolworks – The king of hand cut rasp making (no need to take our word for it – hundreds of others say so!). This marvellous French company can trace its history back to 1756 (that’s the reign of Louis XV – blimey the French had a lot of Louis’s!).
I don’t think they are doing things too differently from nearly 170 years ago. The lesson being if it works then stick with it.
A recent conversation with Michel Auriou revealed that evidence has emerged that the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840 – 1917) used Michel’s ancestors tools in his work. More of this in the New Year folks!
So this is a 32mm wide (max) cabinet rasp – flat one side, convex the other, tapering to a tip with cut edges. Overall length of the blank is 250mm.
This is Grain 9, a medium coarseness.
